A Li River cruise from Guilin: piers, scenery and onward travel

The Li River cruise is a separate outing from Guilin’s city lakes. Plan the right pier, enjoy the karst scenery on the way towards Yangshuo, and decide where you will go after disembarking before you book.

01

Choose a river journey, not a similarly named lake tour

Look for a cruise travelling through the Li River scenic area towards Yangshuo if your aim is the tall karst landscape. Guilin’s Two Rivers and Four Lakes boats explore the urban water system instead. Short sightseeing rafts and full cruise vessels also have different routes and conditions; compare the actual embarkation and disembarkation points.

02

Get the departure pier right

Read your confirmation for Zhujiang Pier or Mopanshan Pier, then arrange the correct transfer. The official scenic-area transport page lists public and dedicated pier services, including bus 9 to Zhujiang. Check departures through the Li River Ticket Office account rather than assuming a frequent walk-up service will match your boat.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

03

Use the ticket channel and complete the booking

The scenic area directs visitors to the WeChat service account 漓江售票处, Li River Ticket Office, for cruise and raft tickets. Follow the current passenger-identification and payment requirements, save the confirmation, and check what your purchase includes. A boat class, lunch, hotel pickup and onward transfer are separate details to verify rather than benefits to infer from a photograph.

For a packaged river journey, Compare the four-star Li River cruise. Visit Our China lists a four-star boat, buffet lunch and central-Guilin hotel pickup. This is not an English-guided cruise, and hotel drop-off is excluded. Plan your arrival in Yangshuo and any return separately, bring your passport and check the child seating rules. Weather and water levels can change the journey.

04

Watch how the scenery changes

Spend time looking along the river rather than only at the nearest peak: steep limestone faces, bamboo-lined banks and gaps between hills change as the boat moves. The official scenic-area guide identifies Nine-Horse Painting Hill and the Xingping landscape among the river highlights. Ask which features your selected sailing passes; do not assume every short route reaches them all.

05

Make Yangshuo an arrival, not a surprise

Check the actual final pier and arrange your onward journey before leaving Guilin. If you are returning to the city, confirm the transfer separately; if you are staying in Yangshuo, confirm where to take your luggage after disembarkation. Leave room for a meal and ground travel, and avoid pairing the cruise with a tightly timed departure elsewhere.

06

Pack for the deck and keep a weather alternative

Bring sun protection, a light rain layer, water and a secure place for your phone, with a warm layer in cooler months. Follow crew instructions and keep clear of restricted deck areas. River levels and weather can alter the service. If your departure is cancelled, use a central Guilin day around the available Elephant Trunk Hill and lake paths when conditions allow, rather than substituting an unverified raft operator.
