A first look at Tbilisi

Pair Abanotubani’s brick bath domes with Sioni and the old-city lanes, then cross the Bridge of Peace to Rike Park. Keep the Mother of Georgia ridge as an optional, weather-dependent outing; Narikala’s restoration restricts fortress access. Across the river, Holy Trinity Cathedral offers a different sense of scale. Sololaki’s façades and Shavi’s Garage café at 28 Lado Asatiani make a slower second-day pairing. Avoid demonstrations and change your route if streets are blocked.

Choosing a season

The best-season badge suggests months for general sightseeing, using the typical daytime temperatures and rainfall in our monthly guides. Beach holidays, festivals, winter sports and northern lights trips may suit different dates.

Climate methodology

Maspindzeli tabulates Tbilisi station 1991–2020 normals attributed to Georgia’s National Environmental Agency/WMO: October mean maximum 20.2°C, mean minimum 10.6°C and precipitation 46.3 mm. These values were read from that secondary table; the underlying NOAA file was not directly retrieved. Packing bands round the mean maximum/minimum and add ±2°C, not observed extremes or forecast limits. JMA’s separate Tbilisi normal series supports the seasonal pattern but is not substituted for those maximum/minimum values. Check the forecast for your actual dates.

Transport guide

Getting around Tbilisi

Use Tbilisi Transport Company’s Android app for journey planning and real-time bus information; its website also links a mobile-web journey planner. The app description establishes planning functions, not ticket purchase. TTC lists a 1 GEL, 90-minute municipal travel product paid with Metromoney or supported bank cards; tap when boarding or entering and confirm the tariff for your particular card. Pass packages require a subscription card. The Rike–Narikala cable car is priced separately at 2.5 GEL one way, so do not assume a bus or metro transfer includes it. Cash or mobile-app payment does not establish the same transfer entitlement. Check route notices, keep the same payment medium for transfers and leave extra time if demonstrations disrupt central streets.

Check the operator’s current service notices and ticket instructions before travelling.

Entry guide

Entry information for Georgia

Check GeoConsul for your nationality, passport and permitted stay before departure; visa-free entry is not universal. The official guidance requires tourists within its scope to carry health and accident insurance for the entire stay, including arrival and departure, with at least 30,000 GEL cover and a policy in Georgian or English. Keep the actual policy available offline, together with accommodation and onward-travel details. Check exemptions and current rules directly rather than relying on another traveller’s eligibility.
