A first look at Kep

Start at the Crab Market, where seafood stalls and over-water restaurants make lunch part of the outing. Holy Crab is a seated seafood option beside the market. After a rest, follow Kep Beach to the White Lady statue and view the blue crab monument from the seafront. Give Kep National Park a cooler morning of its own. Rabbit Island needs a separate boat plan from the tourist pier, with a confirmed return and a weather fallback.

Choosing a season

The best-season badge suggests months for general sightseeing, using the typical daytime temperatures and rainfall in our monthly guides. Beach holidays, festivals, winter sports and northern lights trips may suit different dates.

Climate methodology

Regional proxy: rounded mean daily minima and maxima from WWIS / Cambodia Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology Kampot observations, 1982–2024. Kampot is approximately 25 km northwest of Kep; these are not Kep station observations. Coastal exposure, showers and sea conditions can differ. The daytime band spans rounded mean daily minimum to maximum, and the nighttime band brackets the mean minimum. WWIS rain days use a threshold of at least 4 mm. Kep’s local seasonal description corroborates generally wetter May–October and hotter March–May conditions. These climate averages are not forecasts or evidence of safe sea conditions.

Transport guide

Getting around Kep

Kep’s beach, crab market, hillside accommodation and tourist pier are separate stops. Walk shorter coastal stretches in cooler hours, allowing for traffic and uneven verges; arrange a tuk-tuk through your accommodation for hills, luggage or a return after dark. Agree the whole route, waiting, fare and payment before leaving. A local visitor site reports PassApp use, but the operator’s published city list does not explicitly confirm Kep: check live driver availability and keep an arranged-driver fallback. PassApp books rides, not bus passes or attraction tickets. Royal Railway’s mobile passenger website confirms Kep on the southern intercity line and supplies booking contacts; check the current timetable and arrange the station transfer separately. redBus lists intercity routes to and from Kep, with operator-specific boarding points and mobile tickets. Neither service plans local tuk-tuk routes or sells a Kep city transit pass.

Check the operator’s current service notices and ticket instructions before travelling.

Entry guide

Entry information for Cambodia

Check the current park entrance, posted charges and trail conditions locally before a forest walk; do not assume every mapped shortcut is open. Rabbit Island boats leave from the tourist pier, not automatically from the crab market: agree the return and cancel if the operator judges the sea unsuitable. Ruined villas may be private or unsafe; view only from public roads. A pepper-farm trip is a separate countryside day. La Plantation asks for visiting slots from November to March, and entry, guided tasting and cooking classes are different products.
