A first look at Kampot

Start around the Old Market and Durian Roundabout, then follow the riverfront towards the Old Bridge. Make Epic Arts Café a breakfast or lunch stop using its current map pin. Beyond town, La Plantation pairs a pepper-growing walk with a tasting; salt pans on a countryside circuit are most active in dry weather. Keep Bokor’s church and Wat Sampov Bram for a separate mountain outing rather than adding them to an already full farm day.

Choosing a season

The best-season badge suggests months for general sightseeing, using the typical daytime temperatures and rainfall in our monthly guides. Beach holidays, festivals, winter sports and northern lights trips may suit different dates.

Climate methodology

Rounded mean daily minima and maxima from WWIS / Cambodia Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology Kampot observations, 1982–2024. The daytime band spans rounded mean daily minimum to maximum; the nighttime band brackets the mean minimum, not a forecast range. WWIS defines rain days here as at least 4 mm. Rain summaries reflect the monthly seasonal pattern. Town climate is not a forecast and should not be applied to the cooler Bokor plateau.

Transport guide

Getting around Kampot

Walk the compact old-town streets in cooler hours; pavement obstructions may push you close to traffic. PassApp explicitly lists Kampot and provides a passenger app for booking local rides. It is ride-hailing, not a bus route planner, transit pass or attraction ticket; check pickup, fare and payment method before confirming. Registration and a data connection are needed, so keep a guesthouse-arranged driver as a fallback. Countryside return pickups are not guaranteed: arrange waiting and the return in advance. Royal Railway’s mobile passenger website covers intercity trains, including Kampot on the southern line, with booking contacts and timetables; it does not sell local tuk-tuk or city-bus tickets.

Check the operator’s current service notices and ticket instructions before travelling.

Entry guide

Entry information for Cambodia

La Plantation’s self-guided entry and guided tasting are different products: check the current booking page and inclusions. The farm requests advance visiting slots from November to March and cooking-class booking no later than the day before. Working salt fields depend on dry weather; a tour stop does not guarantee harvesting. Bokor’s church has an active restoration project; ask about visitor access and keep exterior viewing conditional on signs and barriers. Wat Sampov Bram is a working pagoda. Do not assume the restored Bokor Palace hotel is an abandoned building open to explore.
