Day one morning: market, silk exchange and old-town squares
Start around the Central Market and La Lonja de la Seda, the historic silk exchange. Check market opening arrangements for your day, browse the stalls, then choose whether to enter La Lonja. Continue towards the cathedral and Plaza de la Virgen for a compact introduction to the old town.
If you prefer a wider overview with less walking, a two-hour Valencia tuk-tuk sightseeing tour covers the historic centre, beach area and City of Arts and Sciences. Treat it as an alternative to part of the walking plan, not as admission to the Silk Exchange or aquarium.
Day one afternoon: El Carmen and a proper lunch
Give El Carmen time for its streets and squares rather than rushing straight to the beach. If you want to try paella, choose a restaurant deliberately and allow a seated meal; the city visit does not need to become a hunt for the shortest queue. Check menu prices and opening times before settling on a place.
Day two morning: a section of the Turia Gardens
Use the Turia Gardens as a walk towards the City of Arts and Sciences, with a starting point that fits your accommodation. Choose a section rather than the whole park. Near the eastern end, the Palau de la Música and the approach to the modern complex can give the walk a clear purpose.
Day two: choose one experience at the complex
Choose the Science Museum for hands-on exhibits, Oceanogràfic for marine life, or a Hemisfèric screening if that format appeals. Check the programme and ticket inclusions before booking. Walking around the buildings and reflecting pools is a separate architecture outing; it does not mean you have visited the ticketed attractions.
Use the beach as an alternative afternoon
If you prefer sea air to a long museum visit, travel to Las Arenas or Malvarrosa for a promenade walk and a meal. Swimming depends on the day's conditions and beach notices. Do not squeeze a full Oceanogràfic visit and an extended beach afternoon into the same small gap.
Keep the last morning simple
Choose breakfast in the old town or a short return to the Turia if your departure allows it. In rain, swap the long park walk for a museum visit; in heat, shorten exposed outdoor sections. A weekend is enough for a taste of Valencia, without adding an Albufera excursion just because it appears on a map.
