Naples’ dense historic centre and surrounding cityscape
Naples · Weekend plan

A first weekend in Naples

Keep the weekend in Naples: a booked old-town visit, time for pizza, and a choice between the waterfront and hill museums. Pompeii and island trips deserve days of their own.

01

Saturday morning: chapel and connecting squares

Use the confirmed Sansevero time to organise a walk through San Domenico, Piazza Nilo and the Spaccanapoli setting. Arrive according to the booking instructions. An organised city tour can replace this morning, but check language and exact ticket inclusions instead of selecting only by its star rating.

02

Saturday lunch: a specific pizza stop

Consider Gino Sorbillo’s historic pizzeria on Via dei Tribunali, allowing time for the actual seating procedure. Follow the meal with San Gregorio Armeno’s craft shops when operating. Keep shopping modest and give yourself a real break before another interior; the day should not depend on instant service.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

03

Sunday morning: broad waterfront space

Walk from Piazza del Plebiscito towards Santa Lucia on permitted public paths. At our 9 October 2026 review, Castel dell’Ovo remained closed without a confirmed reopening day. Packtricia will recheck, and readers should always confirm before going. Keep its exterior and the available waterfront as the route, rather than a required castle admission.

04

Sunday afternoon: one hill or museum choice

Choose Castel Sant’Elmo for the city view, or San Martino for architecture and collections, after checking hill transport and visitor notices. In rain, consider MANN’s archaeological collection instead; it normally closes Tuesdays, with dated exceptions. Do not add Pompeii after a full city afternoon.

05

Check the journey as well as the attractions

For one day, keep one main interior and the surrounding old-town walk. The airport’s notice reviewed on 9 October 2026 announces November runway works and closure; confirm your airline’s arrangements and the exact travel dates. Rail arrival or another airport requires its own transfer plan, not simply the usual Naples airport bus route.

Check before you go

Opening arrangements and visitor rules can change. Check the official information before your trip.

Naples, Castel Sant’Elmo and the bay from a hilltop viewpoint

Naples from Vomero: castle view or San Martino collection?

Choose one main hilltop visit and plan the transport around it. Castel Sant’Elmo and San Martino are neighbours with different collections and admissions; the climb is not an extra stop between two old-town bookings.

Piazza del Plebiscito and San Francesco di Paola in Naples

Naples waterfront: Plebiscito, Santa Lucia and Castel dell’Ovo

Keep this route on available public streets, with the castle as an exterior landmark. Castel dell’Ovo is still worth naming, but its closed interior should not be the required endpoint of your walk.

Naples rooftops around Castel Sant’Elmo and the San Martino complex

Naples: Spaccanapoli and a booked Sansevero visit

Let the Sansevero slot anchor a short old-town walk. The Veiled Christ deserves concentrated looking, while Spaccanapoli’s squares and church settings give you useful stops outside the museum.

Naples harbour and Vesuvius beyond the San Martino complex

Naples: Via dei Tribunali pizza and craft streets

Use one pizzeria as the main food stop, then explore nearby squares and craft streets. A good pizza outing needs time to eat and an honest queue plan, rather than a promise that every famous venue has instant seating.

10 things people forget when visiting Rome

A first weekend in Bologna

Keep the first day around the civic squares and food shops, then choose San Luca or a slower museum day. The closed Asinelli climb should not determine whether the weekend feels complete.
