Rhodes harbour and medieval sea walls
Rhodes · Weekend plan

A first weekend in Rhodes Town

Keep this weekend in Rhodes Town: one medieval interior, time for the Jewish Quarter, and a harbour walk. Lindos and distant beaches deserve their own transport plan rather than being squeezed into the city route.

01

Saturday morning: palace and Knights’ street

Walk up the Street of the Knights and visit the palace courtyard and halls. Choose the palace as the main interior rather than racing through two museums. A guided old-town tour is another way to organise the connecting streets, but check its schedule and separate interior entry charges before substituting it for the self-guided morning.

For a guided version, consider the Rhodes Old Town walking tour with a guide. A three-hour English guided walk covering the Knights’ streets and Jewish Quarter. Palace and archaeological museum interiors are optional and entry fees are extra; hotel transfers require the matching option.

02

Saturday afternoon: a meal and the outer walls

Allow a proper lunch break, then walk one permitted section of the moat if the weather suits. For a later meal, reserve Marco Polo Café for its old-town garden setting. The elevated wall walk has different operating days; do not assume a weekend moat route includes it.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

03

Sunday morning: community history

Visit the memorial at Jewish Martyrs Square, then the synagogue and museum when open. The community’s 9 October 2026 timetable permits summer Sunday visiting but gives weekday-only hours in winter. Packtricia will recheck seasonal access; always check before going. For a winter weekend, move this interior to Friday or Monday and keep Sunday’s public quarter walk.

04

Sunday afternoon: harbour or ancient objects

Walk Mandraki towards the windmills and St Nicholas Fort exterior in settled weather. If it is wet, choose the Archaeological Museum instead and leave the harbour for a short clear interval. Take one indoor collection slowly; a boat to another island would replace this afternoon, not slot into it.

05

For one day, keep the route compact

Choose the Knights’ street, palace or museum, and one harbour pause. Add the Jewish Quarter only if the timing leaves space for its story. Save the official city bus route to your accommodation, carry water in summer and wear shoes that cope with uneven old paving.

06

Compare Rhodes New Town and medieval-town private tour

Confirm current route, meeting point and interior admissions for the selected booking. A city overview does not establish palace, wall-walk, synagogue or museum entry.

For a booked alternative, compare the Rhodes New Town and medieval-town private tour. Check the selected date and option before booking.

Mandraki harbour with St Nicholas Fort and boats in Rhodes

Rhodes: Mandraki harbour and a shorter moat walk

Combine the harbour’s fortifications with an outside view of the medieval walls. This is a city walk, with a clear turn-back point, rather than a reason to add a long boat excursion to the same morning.

Street of the Knights climbing towards the palace in Rhodes

Rhodes: the Knights’ street and an archaeological museum visit

A short walk between two medieval buildings can reveal two different histories. Use the Knights’ street for the urban setting, then the former hospital museum for the island’s much older objects.

Medieval walls and palace towers above Rhodes Old Town

Rhodes’ Jewish Quarter: memorial, synagogue and museum

Give the Jewish Quarter time for its community’s story. The memorial square is a useful starting point, but the museum adds the context that a quick photograph cannot provide.

Palace of the Grand Master courtyard seen through a stone arch

Rhodes’ palace: rooms, courtyard and the separate wall walk

Choose the palace for its courtyard and furnished halls, then treat the elevated walls as a separate visit. A palace ticket does not turn every part of the fortifications into an all-day public walk.

Chania’s harbour buildings at dusk

A first weekend in Chania: harbour, old-town food and one museum

Give Saturday to the harbour and old town, then choose a museum for Sunday. Keep the closed market and ongoing paving repairs visible in the plan without letting either become a required stop.

Venetian bastions and the cityscape of Heraklion

A first weekend in Heraklion

Give Minoan history one day and Heraklion’s own streets another. Knossos, a city museum and the harbour make a workable weekend when you leave time for transport, meals and a weather alternative.
