A Beatles day in Liverpool: the dock museum and Mathew Street

Pair The Beatles Story at Royal Albert Dock with Mathew Street for two different sides of Liverpool’s music history. Keep suburban Beatles locations for another outing rather than trying to fit every address into this central day.

01

Start with the band’s story at the dock

The Beatles Story combines original memorabilia with recreated places associated with the band’s career. Take time for the early Liverpool and Hamburg story before moving through the later years. The reconstructed Cavern setting inside the museum is distinct from visiting today’s music venue on Mathew Street.

02

Check the entrance steps first

Reviewed 9 October 2026: The Beatles Story’s entrance lift is out of order. The exhibition currently requires 19 shallow steps, and the operator has no confirmed replacement timeframe. Its Royal Albert Dock shop and Pier Head café remain wheelchair accessible. Use those or Museum of Liverpool if steps are unsuitable. Packtricia will recheck the lift; confirm directly before travelling.

03

Keep the food break close to the visit

The Fab4 Café at Royal Albert Dock makes a convenient stop after the exhibition, with music-themed surroundings that continue the outing without requiring another attraction ticket. Check its current opening information before relying on it for a late meal. Use the pause to decide whether you want more history or a performance next.

04

Change the pace on Mathew Street

Continue into the city centre towards Mathew Street for the street’s Beatles associations and the Cavern Club. Browse at street level before any booked event. The Liverpool Beatles Museum is another separate attraction here; choose it only if you want a second collection visit, rather than assuming it is included with The Beatles Story.

05

Choose an actual performance, not just another doorway

Check the Cavern Club’s current programme, admission and age arrangements if you want live music. Leave enough time to hear a set rather than squeezing it between museum bookings. Penny Lane and Strawberry Field are outside this central route: save them for a separately planned transport outing.
