A first look at Tashkent

Tashkent rewards a mix of old-city courtyards, busy market halls and decorated metro stations. Pair Chorsu with Hazrati Imam, then give Amir Temur Square and its museum a separate outing. Leave time for freshly baked non at the bazaar and a plov lunch near the TV Tower.

What this means for packing

Bring a jumper and light jacket for mornings around Amir Temur Square, then remove layers as the day warms. October can bring rain, so keep a shell in your bag and make the Timurids Museum an easy alternative to an extended square walk. Use this list as a starting point, then download Packtricia for a detailed personal list and quantities tailored to your actual dates, trip length, luggage, weather, preferences and plans.

Choosing a season

The best-season badge suggests months for general sightseeing, using the typical daytime temperatures and rainfall in our monthly guides. Beach holidays, festivals, winter sports and northern lights trips may suit different dates.

Climate methodology

Packing bands are approximately 2°C either side of the rounded WMO/Uzhydromet monthly mean maximum (21°C) and minimum (7.2°C); monthly precipitation is 34.1 mm. The published series carries a 14 May 2001 submission date but does not identify its averaging period or rain-day threshold. It is an older seasonal reference, not a current forecast or a modern 30-year normal; cold spells and heatwaves can fall well outside these bands. Check the forecast before packing.

Transport guide

Getting around Tashkent

Use the metro between neighbourhoods and walk within each chosen area. Chorsu station serves the bazaar; Amir Temur Xiyoboni is useful for Amir Temur Square. Use Yandex Maps for Tashkent public-transport routes and stops: it plans journeys, rather than selling your city ride. Check the stop direction and any live information before boarding. ATTO is the official transport-payment app for managing a transport-card balance and tariff plans. Cards are sold at metro ticket offices and UzPost outlets; keep the card topped up, tap the bus validator or metro turnstile and wait for successful payment. The app does not make a ride valid merely because you planned a route. Check current device, account and payment-card requirements before relying on phone-only payment; a physical transport card is a useful fallback. ATTO’s intercity ticket offers are separate from Tashkent bus and metro travel. Download apps from the official links and save your destination address before leaving Wi-Fi.

Check the operator’s current service notices and ticket instructions before travelling.
