A first weekend in Antalya: old town and coast

Give Kaleiçi one day and the coast another. This Antalya weekend balances an old-town circuit with a choice of beach or waterfall, keeping travel, shade and a proper evening meal in the plan.

01

Day 1 morning: enter Kaleiçi at Hadrian’s Gate

Start at Hadrian’s Gate, then continue into the old streets. Use the gate as your first clear landmark rather than trying to visit every lane. Allow time to look up at the carved stonework before moving into the neighbourhood.

Work toward the Clock Tower and Yivli Minaret area, pausing for the Mevlevihane Museum. Its displays offer a compact introduction to Mevlevi culture; check the official page for the day’s visitor arrangements. Keep mosque visits optional and follow instructions around worship.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

02

Day 1 afternoon: harbour first, then a rest

After lunch, descend toward Kaleiçi Old Harbour. Look back at the walls and tiled roofs, then choose a waterfront viewpoint. The return climb is part of the outing: take it slowly, especially when the paving is wet or the day is hot.

Leave the later afternoon flexible. A boat trip is optional and needs its own route, duration and weather check; a short harbour cruise does not automatically reach Lower Düden. You can have a satisfying first day without boarding anything.

03

Day 1 evening: reserve a meal inside the old town

For an optional longer dinner, we recommend Seraser. The historic residence and its Anatolian–Mediterranean food focus suit an evening after the old-town circuit. Check the current menu and reserve ahead; this is a planned restaurant meal rather than a quick stop between sights.

If you prefer a lighter day, finish after the harbour and return for dinner later. Avoid carrying beach gear throughout the old-town walk when you can leave it for tomorrow.

04

Day 2: choose Konyaaltı or Lower Düden

For a beach-focused day, travel west to Konyaaltı Beach. Choose a manageable promenade section and add swimming only if the conditions and your ability suit it. Carry shade and sun protection; beach services and any hired equipment are separate purchases.

For a waterfall-focused day, travel east to Lower Düden Waterfall. Use the clifftop park viewpoints, then return for a relaxed meal. Upper Düden is a different inland site. Keep the eastern waterfall and western beach as alternatives instead of spending the day crossing the city.

05

A guided alternative to the first-day walk

A guided walk can replace the self-guided morning and harbour circuit. Leave room afterward for lunch and rest rather than repeating the same landmarks with another tour.

For a guided introduction, consider the Kaleiçi walking tour with dessert tasting. Antalya Local lists a three-hour English walk from the Clock Tower with a guide and dessert tasting. Confirm your date, start time and expected finishing time before booking; some review feedback mentions shorter tours. The dessert contains semolina, ice cream, tahini and peanuts, so discuss dietary needs in advance. The listing excludes people with mobility impairments. Treat this as an alternative to the self-guided old-town circuit, and arrange beaches, waterfalls and transport separately.

06

Museum closure, shorter visits and weather changes

Antalya Museum was closed when checked on 24 October 2026. The Ministry lists new-museum construction and the transfer of objects, with closure continuing until the work is complete; no confirmed reopening day is given. Packtricia will check for reopening, but always check the museum before travelling. Use the open Mevlevihane Museum in Kaleiçi as a smaller cultural alternative, rather than making the closed archaeology museum a required stop.

For a short stay, keep the gate, one old-town stretch and the harbour view. In heavy rain, use the Mevlevihane visit and a seated meal rather than exposed cliff paths. Summer sightseeing works better early or late, with a proper break in between. Perge and Aspendos need a separate excursion plan, not an extra stop on this city weekend.

Antalya’s sea views work well as short outings rather than one long coastal march. Choose Hıdırlık and Karaalioğlu beside Kaleiçi, or plan a separate western-cliff stop near Atatürk Kültür Parkı.
