Warsaw Royal Castle: choose your route and understand free Wednesday

Match the Royal Castle ticket to the rooms and collections you want. A free Wednesday visit follows a limited route, while gardens and the Tin-Roofed Palace have their own conditions.

01

Choose the collection before choosing the ticket

The Royal Apartments offer the king’s state rooms and private quarters, including the Throne Room and Canaletto Room. The Museum Route has a different focus, including Parliamentary Chambers and art collections. Read the current description for the specific ticket rather than buying whatever contains the word Castle. If Rembrandt paintings or constitutional history are your main interest, verify the relevant rooms and actual admission. A broader permanent-exhibition ticket still covers only spaces open on that day.

02

Free Wednesday has a reduced scope

As checked on 14 October 2026, Wednesday admission follows a special route through parts of the Royal Apartments and the Lanckoroński Gallery. Several other rooms and galleries are unavailable, including Parliamentary Chambers and some apartment rooms. Free tickets are collected at the Castle ticket desk on the day and numbers are limited; visits are individual and unreserved. Do not advertise Wednesday as the same experience as a full paid route. Check the current detailed exclusions if a particular room matters to you.

03

The normal calendar and holidays need their own check

The operator normally opens the main routes Tuesday–Sunday and closes Mondays. Last entry is earlier than the building’s closing time. Specific holidays change that pattern: the published list includes 1 November, 24–25 December and 31 December closures, while other holidays can be open. Use the actual visit date instead of copying a remembered weekly timetable. A guide’s outdoor Castle Square stop does not overcome a closed interior or establish that your preferred admission has been booked.

04

Separate the Tin-Roofed Palace and gardens

The Tin-Roofed Palace has its own route and reconstructed Prince Józef Poniatowski apartment. Do not rely on a temporary exhibition whose advertised end date has passed. The upper and lower gardens are also a distinct outdoor choice with seasonal closing times and possible weather-related closure. Their availability can change on days when the Castle itself is closed. The garden-side photograph in this guide identifies the complex; it is not a promise that every terrace is open for your date.

05

Leave time between the visit and a meal

Once you have a real entry plan, allow time before returning down Krakowskie Przedmieście to Café Bristol. The current menu’s mushroom tagliatelle makes a specific lunch possibility, while a pastry and coffee suit a shorter break. Check the actual service and ingredients when ordering. Do not book another timed attraction immediately after the Castle without allowing for the exit, walk and meal. A relaxed pause is especially useful after reading rooms or following an audio commentary.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

06

Ask about access and keep an outdoor alternative

Check bag storage, the selected route’s access arrangements and any assistance you need before arriving. Do not assume that an old palace is step-free throughout or that one ticket answers every access question. If the rooms you want are closed, Castle Square and the available Old Town streets provide the shorter alternative. Packtricia records calendar and route restrictions for future checks; readers should still verify the Castle before travel. Bring comfortable shoes and a removable layer for the outing.
