Day one: give Fort Santiago the morning
Start at Fort Santiago, with water and a hat within reach. Take the grounds as the first substantial visit rather than racing through them on the way to another attraction. Pause at the gate and use the visitor map to locate the Rizal Shrine and river-side defences.
Continue towards Manila Cathedral and Plaza Roma after the fort. This keeps the morning in one part of the walled city. Photograph the frontage from the square; enter only when sightseeing access is compatible with worship or another service.
Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.
For a guided alternative, consider the Viva Old Manila! Intramuros walking tour. Check your chosen date, language and meeting instructions. The listed walk centres on Fort Santiago and Intramuros landmarks; Casa Manila’s interior is closed for renovation. Confirm any changed stops and admission inclusions with the operator. Meals and hotel transfers are separate.
Day one: General Luna Street and a proper break
Follow General Luna Street towards San Agustin Church, looking at the change from open plazas to narrower streets. Stop at the church frontage; the museum is a separate optional commitment. You do not need every available interior to make this a useful first day.
We recommend Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant at Plaza San Luis for Filipino cooking in a heritage setting. Reserve if you want its cultural dinner programme and confirm what that particular sitting includes; a daytime meal should not be treated as a show ticket.
Keep Casa Manila optional
Casa Manila Museum closed for renovation on 9 October 2026 and was still unavailable at our 19 October 2026 check. No reopening date has been announced. Packtricia will recheck it; confirm directly before travelling and keep the museum interior out of the required weekend plan.
The exterior near General Luna and Real Streets still gives the walk a clear architectural anchor where the public pavement remains accessible. For an available museum alternative, check Centro de Turismo Intramuros and its current opening guidance. Avoid assuming a closure notice applies equally to nearby businesses.
Day two: choose art before adding another museum
Begin at National Museum of Fine Arts on Padre Burgos Avenue. Make the Fine Arts collection the morning’s main visit, allowing time to look at individual works and the former legislative building. Check the museum’s current visitor rules before setting out.
After a meal and rest, add the National Museum of Anthropology or Natural History only if you still want another interior. These are separate buildings with different collections. A short look around the open parts of Rizal Park is a lighter alternative when the weather is comfortable.
Move the outdoor part when the weather changes
Swap the days if the clearer weather suits Intramuros better. During thunderstorms or an official severe-weather warning, postpone exposed walks and check that your intended museum is operating before travelling. Rainy-season flexibility matters more than completing a checklist.
Take the LRT only as far as it helps your actual route: the museum and Intramuros still require walking from their approach stations. Check the return journey before an evening meal and allow for traffic if arranging a car.
