Day one morning: Hawa Mahal, then the observatory
Start at the street-facing Hawa Mahal; the many screened windows read best from the street before you enter through the rear courtyard. Continue on foot to Jantar Mantar, where the huge stone instruments make more sense if you choose an audio guide or local guide. Check the current ticket and visitor hours first.
Walk a few minutes to City Palace for its courtyards, royal costume collections and arms displays. Its museum opens daily according to the official visitor page; separate areas and tickets may vary, so check what your entry covers.
Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.
Lunch in Johari Bazaar
We recommend LMB in Johari Bazaar for a vegetarian Rajasthani meal or a sweet-shop stop. Rajasthan Tourism singles out its green-pea kachori and ghevar; ask what is being served that day and allow time for a sit-down break between monument visits.
Day one afternoon: add one more stop, not a race
If you still have energy, ride to Albert Hall Museum in Ram Niwas Garden. Its galleries include textiles, musical instruments, jewellery and paintings. Otherwise, keep the afternoon for a slower bazaar loop: Johari Bazaar for jewellery, Bapu Bazaar for textiles and mojari footwear, and Tripolia Bazaar for lac bangles. These are working shopping streets; browse respectfully and agree prices before a purchase.
Day two: Amer Fort and the lake
Leave early for Amer Fort, about 11 km from the city according to Rajasthan Tourism. Enter the palace complex for Ganesh Pol, the mirrored Sheesh Mahal and the courtyards above Maota Lake. The steep site has steps and exposed stretches; use a car or auto for the ride and take water. Choose walking or the official ticketed transport options at the gate rather than accepting unsolicited offers. Afterward, Panna Meena ka Kund and Anokhi Museum are separate nearby stops, each with its own access and opening notices. View the kund from its rim; do not climb down. The Anokhi Museum’s official page announced a summer closure with a 15 July 2026 reopening date, now past; confirm current opening directly before making it part of the day. If you would rather linger in the fort, skip both add-ons and keep the afternoon unhurried.
A one-day alternative and a monsoon adjustment
For a packed single day, use the full-day option described above instead of trying to fit it around this two-day plan. In July and August, check the forecast before walking wet stone steps; choose the indoor museum or a shorter walled-city loop if heavy rain affects the fort roads.
If you have one full day and want a guided, car-based circuit, compare Hello India Tours’ private Jaipur and Amer Fort guided tour. The full-day option lists Amer Fort, Panna Meena ka Kund, Jal Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal, with Jaipur pickup and drop-off. Monument tickets and lunch depend on the option selected; shopping stops appear in the itinerary, so ask in advance about the stops and whether you can opt out. Check guide language, pace, date and selected inclusions before booking.
