Szeged’s Votive Church and twin towers seen across the patterned paving of Dóm Square
Szeged · First visit

A first Szeged weekend: Dóm Square, the Tisza and Art Nouveau

Use the first day for the Cathedral square and central streets, then give the museum and a confirmed synagogue visit room on the second. An ordinary weekend needs a different plan on Saturday and Sunday.

01

Day one morning: Dóm Square

Begin under the square’s arcades and look towards the Votive Church’s red-brick towers. Compare the separate Dömötör Tower with the much larger church before choosing a visitor-centre exhibition or a climb. These are different ticket components. Start with the exterior if you want a relaxed introduction; religious services and your group’s stair comfort matter more than fitting every paid part into the morning.

02

Day one afternoon: central streets and Reök

Continue through the centre around Kárász Street and Dugonics Square towards Reök Palace at Magyar Ede tér 2. Look for the flowing façade and plant-like ornament. Check REÖK’s actual exhibition programme if you want to go inside. REÖK Artisan Pastry Shop offers a concrete break in the same building: its local tourism listing describes on-site pastry making, so a cake-and-coffee pause gives this architectural stop a useful food focus. Check current choices and dietary requirements with the café.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

03

Day two morning: the Móra Museum

Use the Móra Ferenc Museum near the Tisza for a focused indoor visit. Choose an exhibition that suits your interests from the operator’s current programme, then decide whether to add its viewpoint. A museum admission is different from the combined ticket for the Black House and Castle Museum. The building’s columned front gives the riverside route a recognisable anchor even if you choose only an exterior pause.

04

Day two afternoon: a confirmed synagogue visit

The New Synagogue at Jósika utca 10 deserves time for its glass dome and symbolic decoration, but check the actual opening and reserve a guided visit at least three working days ahead through the operator. Regular tourism information lists Saturday closure, making a confirmed Sunday session a better weekend possibility. If the visit cannot be confirmed, use a shorter Art Nouveau exterior walk or a film at Belvárosi Mozi whose language suits you.

05

Use the riverside as an optional extension

Add an available upper-level Tisza-side stroll around the museum and Stefánia after checking local signs. Do not make the low quay or a bridge crossing essential: weather, high water, events and works can change access. An inland return through central streets keeps the weekend useful if the river route is uncomfortable. A river walk is not a cruise ticket, and boat schedules need separate confirmation.

06

Check current calendars and pack accordingly

Reviewed 13 October 2026: the synagogue operator’s 2026 autumn notice confirms opening on 23 October; the tourism page’s 2024 holiday list is not a current calendar. The Cathedral visitor centre lists Monday closure. Packtricia will recheck these conditions; always check the venues before travelling. Carry a removable layer for river exposure, modest clothes for religious interiors and tested walking shoes. Summer open squares need sun protection and water; cold-weather pauses need insulation.

Check before you go

Opening arrangements and visitor rules can change. Check the official information before your trip.
