Visitors on Kondiaronk Belvedere looking over Montréal’s downtown skyline

Mount Royal: Kondiaronk views, Beaver Lake and a shorter park outing

Choose a single viewpoint first, then add the lake only when the paths, weather and your energy make the extension worthwhile.

01

Use the park map before ascending

Locate Kondiaronk Belvedere and the Chalet on the official park map, then choose the approach that suits you. The stair approach can be demanding; a wider winding path is a different walking decision, not a promise of step-free access under every condition. Save the route and transport connection before entering the park.

02

Make the viewpoint the main reward

Pause at Kondiaronk Belvedere for the downtown panorama, identifying the cluster of towers below rather than racing onward for another view. Keep the return flexible if cloud hides the skyline or the exposed terrace feels cold. A short visit to the lookout is a complete outing; you do not need to cover the whole hill.

03

Add Beaver Lake with time to rest

If conditions are comfortable, use the marked paths towards Beaver Lake for a change from skyline to park scenery. Check the map for the return instead of assuming every path is a short loop. Café des Amis has published food service at the Chalet and Beaver Lake Pavilion; confirm which location is open before relying on lunch or a warm drink.

04

Keep Smith House out of the required route

Reviewed 13 October 2026: the tourism board reports Smith House temporarily closed for renovation, while the café operator lists an indefinite closure notice. No confirmed reopening date was found. Packtricia will check for reopening, but readers should check the venue before travelling. Continue on available park paths and use a confirmed open Chalet or Pavilion service instead.

05

Match footwear to the surface

Carry water for warmer-weather walking and a layer for slow viewpoint pauses. In winter, choose insulating footwear with grip and turn back if an icy section exceeds your comfort. Skating, snowshoeing and rentals need separate current checks; a photograph of the terrace does not establish safe winter trail conditions or equipment availability.

Check before you go

Opening arrangements and visitor rules can change. Check the official information before your trip.
