Varna’s theatre square and Preslav Street: a cultural city walk

See Varna’s theatre architecture, follow a short Preslav Street route and choose an actual performance or a central meal without confusing the city’s different venues.

01

Begin at Nezavisimost Square

Set Stoyan Bachvarov Drama Theatre as the starting point. Its pink curved frontage and tall windows make a useful architectural anchor for a compact walk. Stand back in the public square to see the building before deciding whether you want an evening performance as well.

The theatre square is part of an ordinary working city centre. Follow current pedestrian access and leave entrances clear, especially before a show. You can appreciate the building without buying a performance or assuming that the interior operates as a drop-in museum.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

02

Keep the theatre and opera programmes distinct

Municipal information describes the building’s role in theatre, opera and concert life, but a production’s actual venue matters. Varna State Opera also uses other spaces, including outdoor and festival venues. The name of the company on a ticket is not enough to establish which entrance you need.

Use the current theatre or opera programme for the production, date and stage. Check the performance language and any surtitles with the organiser; an English information page does not establish translated text at every show. A summer festival notice from an earlier date is not a current evening booking.

03

Follow Preslav for a different view of the centre

Continue onto Preslav Street for a short architectural walk. The municipal route places this area within the central pedestrian and cultural district. Notice the changing façades and street-level businesses rather than trying to turn every building into a separately ticketed attraction.

Keep the route manageable and use permitted crossings where it meets traffic. If you want to continue towards the older port-side streets, make that an optional extension with a clear return. A theatre-square outing does not need to become a full city-to-sea march.

04

Choose a precise meal stop

Staria Chinar – Preslav at 11 Preslav Street provides a named meal option directly on this route. The venue confirms the address and branch, while local discussions offer recommendations for the restaurant group. Ask about the actual day’s soup or grill selection and any dietary requirements before ordering.

The published weekday lunch page includes tarator and meat dishes, but its dates and selection should not be treated as a permanent evening menu. Confirm euro prices and a table if the meal needs to fit a curtain time. Another branch at the port or elsewhere in the city is not interchangeable with this Preslav booking.

05

If you prefer a guided daytime walk

This custom city product can include an opera-area stop, but the route must be agreed. It is not a theatre performance or an all-museums pass.

Compare the private custom Varna city walk Agree the route, language and any meeting arrangement with the provider. Listed cathedral, opera, museum and baths stops are optional. Do not assume museum tickets, public transport or a performance are included; confirm the selected option and access for your group.

06

An optional Roman-history extension

If you still want an outdoor historical stop, check the Roman Thermae before continuing. The large surviving walls belong to ancient Odessos’ baths, not a modern bathing facility. Museum admission and sightseeing at the baths are separate.

On the municipal calendar checked on 15 October 2026, the baths close Sundays and Mondays during October–May. That means a Sunday cultural walk should keep the extension to permitted public streets or choose a different open venue. Do not make a closed site the required destination of the route.

07

Leave a simple evening return

For a show, keep the final afternoon stop close enough that you can arrive without hurrying. Store the actual venue directions and ticket before leaving your accommodation, and check the return journey rather than assuming every performance ends in the same place.

A removable layer and comfortable shoes suit both the walk and a cooler trip home. If the weather turns or no suitable production is available, the exterior architecture and a confirmed meal remain a complete outing. Keep the performance as a deliberate choice, not a requirement for enjoying this part of Varna.
